

Paul C. Baker, Sr., passed away peacefully on April 28, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by the love of his family. A proud veteran, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Paul lived a life defined by service, strength, and deep love for those closest to him.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Edna; siblings Betty, Margaret, and Walter, Jr. “Bud”, as well as his beloved daughter, Jennifer Baker.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Irma Baker, and his large and loving family, including 7 children, 18 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren. His legacy lives on through Robin Simmons; Paul Baker Jr. (Geneva); Laura Vaughan (Joe); Cindy Sheffy (Cliff); Cathy Guertin (Jim); Angela Hamilton (Larry); Scott Patrick (Kate); and all of their children and grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of his spirit forward.
Born in Cumberland, Maryland, Paul often spoke of his humble beginnings with a sense of humor and pride. He joined the military in 1955 after graduating from Fort Hill High School in Cumberland, MD and went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Air Force as a Hospital Corpsman and Aeromedical Evacuation Technician. Over a distinguished 24-year military career, including two tours in Vietnam, he earned numerous commendations, including the Bronze Star, five Air Medals, and the Vietnam Service Medal with five battle stars.
Following his military service, Paul continued his work in medicine and leadership, joining International ATMO, Inc. in 1979, playing a key role in advancing hyperbaric care and clinical operations. He was deeply respected in his field, contributing to the development of training programs, certifications, and standards that continue to impact care today. He served in leadership roles within the National Board of Diving & Hyperbaric Medical Technology agency and was known for his passion, knowledge, and willingness to mentor others. His work in aeromedical evacuation and hyperbaric medicine touched countless lives and reflected his lifelong commitment to helping others.
Outside of his professional accomplishments, Paul found joy in the simple things; time with family, woodworking, golfing, and sharing stories. In recent years, though his health limited some of these activities, his presence remained a steady and meaningful part of his family’s life.
Paul will be remembered for his unwavering dedication, his quiet strength, his sharp wit, and the deep love he had for his family. He built a life rooted in service and left behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations.
His family finds comfort in knowing he is at peace and reunited with those who went before him.
Visitation will be held at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, Texas 78238, on May 29, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Paul's Life at the same location on May 29, 2026, beginning at 12:00 pm. A Procession to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery will depart from Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, Texas 78238, on May 29, 2026, at 1:30 pm. A Graveside Service will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas 78209, on May 29, 2026, at 2:15 pm.
