Paula T. Pate Ouellette

Nov 13, 1927 – Jan 10, 2014

Paula was born on Nov. 13, 1927, in Blakely, Georgia, to Charles Hynes Pate and Maude Sprouse Pate. After receiving her high school diploma, she attended Florida Southern University in Tampa, Florida. In 1949, she married Harold Elmer Ouellette and lived in Canada for several years before returning to the United States where she spent the rest of her life supporting and bringing up her four children.

Paula was preceded in death by her mother and father, her sisters, Ruth and Mildred, and her brothers, Charles Hynes Jr. and James Franklin.

She is survived by her sister, June Weaver, of Madisonville, Texas, children Dawn Cochran (James) of Bergheim, Texas, Dirk Ouellette (Johanna) of Cobble Hill, BC, Canada, Dennis Ouellette (Suzanne) of Prince George, BC, Canada, and Danielle Ouellette (Marty) of Malaga, Washington; nieces Dorie Bagnato, Christine Doyle, and Charlene Scambray of Madisonville, Texas, and Jane Durham Robinson of Geneva, Florida; nephews Leonard Durham of Orlando, Florida, Randy Lane of Lampassas, Texas, and Charlie Roy Durham of Tennessee; granddaughters, Melissa Autumn Micklas (Jeremiah) and Shannon Marie Andreasen; grandsons, Michael Cleon Bommer (Erin), Jacob Paul Bommer (Emma), Charles Talmadge Ouellette (Daileen), Eric Harrison Ouellette, and Jon Pate Ouellette; and five great-grandchildren.

Paula was known for her lovely singing voice, her profound sense of the ridiculous, and her courage. She was honest and compassionate and loved a good laugh. All who knew her will miss her presence in their lives.

Her family wishes to thank the staff of Eden Hill Communities in New Braunfels and Christus Santa Rosa Hospice and Palliative Care San Antonio for their compassionate care in Paula’s last years.

There will be a memorial service for family and friends at St. Andrews United Methodist Church, 722 Robinhood Place, San Antonio, Texas, on January 23, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. and a graveside service in Bluffton, Georgia, on February 19, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the Bluffton City Cemetery.
