Pauline H. Laffey

Pauline H. Laffey, beloved sister, mother and friend, passed away on June 11, 2004. She is survived by her daughters, Roberta of Madison, WI and Jessica, spouse of Juel Ulven and her cherished grandsons, Zachary and John Ulven, of Aurora, IL; brothers, Robert, of Worcester, MA, Richard, of Morristown, NJ, Raymond, of Evergreen, CO; and sister, Jeanne of Vergennes, VT. She was pre-deceased by her husband, John E. Laffey, and by two of her children, Christopher, of San Diego, CA and Andrea of San Antonio, TX.

Born in Worcester, MA, Pauline lived her early years in the Northeast. She graduated Suma Cum Laude from Clark University, where she received her Bachelors and Masters degrees in English. She is distinguished as having been a member of the class of the first five women graduating from Clark University. Pauline taught High School English in New Hampshire for several years. Pauline raised four children while she and her husband relocated from Massachusetts to Florida, New Jersey, Michigan, Wisconsin and Illinois. She and her husband then worked and golfed their ways back through Michigan to West Virginia and then retired to Florida.

Pauline's wide range of interests reflected her love of sports, the arts, nature, and outdoors - she was an accomplished golfer, tennis player, birder and craftsperson. These activities served as a portal to many serendipitous adventures. Her stories and enthusiasm sparked interest in family and friends that have led them to pursue these as hobbies and vocations. She most valued sharing her time with family and her many devoted friends.

While in San Antonio, her old friends kept in touch, and her new friends and many care givers allowed her the opportunity to remain independent and enjoy all that San Antonio has to offer. She truly loved visiting the missions, the birding hot spots, Fredericksburg, and Enchanted Rock.
