The youngest daughter of Herman and Hedwig ("Hattie") Fertsch (nee Wolle), Pearl was born in Runge on April 19, 1924, her father's 36th birthday. The family moved to Nordheim just as Pearl started elementary school, and there she lived until she graduated from high school. A member of the Cadet Nurse Corps, she graduated from nursing school at the former M & S Hospital in San Antonio in 1945, just as World War II ended.
She married Paul Ellis Watson on September 7, 1946 in San Antonio after meeting him at the boarding house where they both resided. Paul and Pearl were married almost 50 years when he passed away in early 1996. Pearl was a full-time mother to two daughters, Kathy and Patsy.
When Paul became ill in 1994, he and Pearl moved to Golden Valley, Minnesota to live with Patsy and her husband, Alan. After Paul passed away, Pearl accepted their invitation to continue to live with them and enjoyed many good years in Golden Valley. She and they returned to San Antonio in 2009. She lived at the Homewood at Shavano Park surrounded by many caring staff members to whom our family will be forever grateful. The family also appreciates the assistance of the Grace Hospice staff who helped us in the final months of Pearl's life.
Pearl is survived by her two daughters, Katherine Fay ("Kathy") Watson (husband, Tom Norton) of Roans Prairie and Patricia Ann ("Patsy") Kuentz (husband, Alan) of San Antonio; Kathy's stepson, Jeffery Thomas Clapp, his wife, Darla, of Magnolia and their family; Pearl's stepdaughter, Joyce Romig of Leander, and her family; and several nieces and nephews as well as other family members. Full of love, Pearl freely shared it as a wife, mother, sister, aunt, stepmother, step grandmother, neighbor, and true friend to many.
The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
