Pedro was born on October 1932 to Antonia and Jose Montoya in Red Oak, Texas. As a young child, Pedro and his family often traveled the harvest route in Texas, where they picked cotton in towns like George West and Waxahachie, leaving him and his siblings to nearly always begin their school year in October.
After graduating from Lanier High School in 1952, he served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, receiving the Korean Service, United Nations Service, and National Defense Service medals upon discharge at Fort Bliss. Upon returning to San Antonio, he began work at Kelly Air Force Base in Civil Service; retiring after 32 years. While working at Kelly A.F.B., he studied electronics at St. Philips College and joined an informal baseball league; playing for more than 6 years.
Pedro met his wife, Rosemary, in 1958. They were married three years later in 1961, and went on to have seven children - Pearl, Pete, Rose, Thomas, Veronica, Ruben and Javier.
During retirement, Pedro enjoyed being outdoors; walking (walked everywhere), working and landscaping his yard, until he couldn’t. Most of all, he loved listening to music and watching old classic movies. He did some traveling in and around the US. Pedro’s focus was always on his wife and family. Often spoiling his grandchildren and teaching them the art of being a proper Astros, Cowboys and Spurs fan.
Pedro was preceded in death by his parents Antonia and Jose, his siblings Velia Montoya, Lionel Montoya, Richard Montoya, Jose Montoya, Felix Montoya, Romana M. Acuna, Victoria Rivera, his son Thomas Montoya and his granddaughter Demitria “Demi” Linares.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary, and their six children, Pearl (Patrick) Robinson of Fort Worth, Pedro (Liz) Montoya of San Antonio, Rose (Scott Wyatt) Montoya of Houston, Veronica Montoya, Ruben (Tiffany) Montoya, and Javier (Vanessa) Montoya of San Antonio; his sister Josie Moya and her family; Grandchildren, Gisela Linares, Christian Munoz, Pedro Montoya III, Delany Montoya, Marissa Montoya, Delilah Montoya, Miranda Montoya, Patrick T.
