

Dr. Pedro Jaime Otero, age 87, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2013 in San Antonio. He was born on October 4, 1925 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Pedro Manuel Otero and Hilda Ortiz Otero.
Dr. Otero graduated from the University of Puerto Rico. He received his medical degree from University of Tennessee at the very young age of 21. After serving in the US Army Medical Corp he moved to San Antonio and opened his private practice, which he ran until his retirement in 1990.
Pedro was a member of the American College of Surgeons, Bexar County Medical Society, Texas Medical Associaton and was very proud to have served as Chief of Surgery at both Santa Rosa and Baptist Hospitals. He was an avid reader and loved music, The New York Yankees, and traveling. He had a positive attitude that was contagious to all who had the privilege of being in his presence.
Pedro was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather, always generous with his time and wisdom.
Dr. Otero is survived by his wife of 64 years, Yolanda Otero; daughter, Sonia Cavazos and husband, Dr. Antonio Cavazos; son, Dr. Richard Otero and wife Dana; son, Peter Otero; three grandchildren, David Cavazos, Christina Otero Ketabchi and her husband Evan Ketabchi, and Maranelle Otero.
A private service will be held by the family.
