

Peggy Anne Batot Matcek, 90, passed away at home on October 3, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Peggy was born in Hondo, Texas on October 6, 1932 to Hortense Adelline Schmidt Batot and Henry Albert Batot, Jr. After moving to San Antonio, she attended St. Joseph’s Academy, graduating at the age of 16. She attended Our Lady of the Lake University, then graduated from the Incarnate Word College Santa Rosa School of Nursing in 1953 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. She was a member of the Kappa Sigma Phi sorority, where she made lifelong friends.
She married Stanley Richard Matcek on February 12, 1955, and was a devoted and loving wife and mother of their eight children. Peggy was a career RN, and also served St. Mark’s community for many years through their prayer ministry. Peggy was proud of her Alsatian heritage and was a descendant of original settlers of the Castro Colonies. Peggy Matcek was a strong, intelligent woman, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She lived her faith and remained intellectually curious and interested in all the happenings of the world throughout her life. She will be deeply and forever missed.
Peggy is survived by her children: Stanley Matcek, Jr., Jennifer Hooker, Christine Matcek Esparza, Laura Matcek Adan, Matthew Matcek, Sr., (Regina), Denise Matcek Liedtka (Frederick “Tex”), Melanie Matcek, grandchildren: Nathan Matcek (Lori Ann), Aaron Matcek (Adrienne), Rachel Esparza Cione (Ian), Eric, Matthew and Michael Esparza, Michelle Adan Rangel (Alex), Leslie Adan Rodriguez (Paul), Matthew, Megan and Taylor Matcek, Camille, Lauren and Claire Liedtka, Christopher and John Duff, and great-grandchildren Caleb and Henry Matcek, Sloane Smith, and Santiago Rangel. She is also survived by her sisters Yvonne Buckley and Patricia Biry, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Peggy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years Stanley Richard Matcek, parents Henry Albert Batot, Jr. and Hortense Adelline Schmidt Batot, daughter Michelle Matcek, daughter-in-law Debbie Matcek, son-in-law Roland Adan, grandson Michael Adan, sister-in-law Madge Matcek, and brothers-in-law Edward Buckley and Jacob Biry.
