

Peter, son of John and Thelma Smith, loving husband of 48 years to Barbara and proud father to Stephen and Daniel. Peter was born August 15, 1946 In South/North Korea and moved to California when he was adopted at the age of nine. It was in August of 1955 Peter left for his new "home" in Arroyo Grande, California and later became a U.S. citizen on December 15, 1961.
Peter flourished in sports and academics with the support and love from his parents. Peter attended Arroyo Grande High School and then went on to play soccer as captain for Chapman University in Orange, CA where he graduated magna cum laude. He met his future wife, Barbara Yamamoto while attending Chapman University. He went on a ROTC scholarship to Eastern New Mexico University to earn his Master's degree in psychology and a commission as a Second Lieutenant.
Peter was a proud Eagle Scout, admired President Abraham Lincoln and his father John, for earning a bronze star and Purple Heart during WWII. His love for this country lead him to his U.S. Army career of 22 years. Peter served three tours in Korea and served as the comptroller for the 18th Medical Command in Seoul, Korea. He retired from the Army in 1992 as a Lieutenant Colonel.
After retirement, Peter had several ventures as an entrepreneur. His last business venture was PBS Coins, that made military and patriotic coins for military units around the world. In his free time Peter enjoyed swimming, walking, tennis and his grandchildren. He also thoroughly enjoyed keeping up with the stock market and discussing politics.
Peter is survived by his wife, Barbara and two sons, Stephen and his wife Lisa of Atlanta, Daniel and his wife Rachel of Arlington, VA, and four grandchildren, Samuel, Lucia, Henry and Danielle.
