Peyton, SFC, Retired U.S. Army, was born January 31, 1949, in Ft. Sheridan, Illinois. As a little boy he lived in Kyoto, Japan, where our father was stationed in the army. He graduated from San Antonio Douglas MacArthur High School in 1967, and attended Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, before beginning a career in the army with multiple tours overseas in Europe and Korea.
He is survived by his daughter, Londa Combs, two grand-
children, Jaelah and Noah, sister, Joan Caswell and brother, Gary Caswell.
He was preceded in death by parents, Lt. Col. Ray Caswell and Mary Caswell, and a brother, Infant Caswell, now at rest in Arlington National Cemetery.
Peyton loved to hunt and fish. Fall was always his favorite time of year when he and our father would head to the hill country deer leases for extended hunts. When fishing season in Wisconsin began in early May, he loved staying at our family cabin in Jump River, where he was later able to reside for a few years.
Peyton was a gentle spirit, so kind to all wildlife and caretaker of our little cabin in the north woods where bear, deer and birds were his neighbors...and now in nature's deep silence may he walk undisturbed into that lovely white cedar swamp...
In memory of his great storytelling:
"They tell us of an Indian tree
Which howsoe'er
the sun and sky
May tempt its boughs
to wander free,
And shoot and
blossom, wide and high,
Far better loves to
bend its arms
Downward again to
that dear earth
From which the life
that fills and warms
Its grateful being,
first had birth.
'Tis thus, though wooed
by flattering friends,
And fed with fame
(if fame it may be),
This heart, my own
dear mother, bends,
With love's true instinct,
back to thee!"
-Thomas Moore
We miss you dear Peyton.
