James Reece Kinser Jr., was born in Dallas, Texas, on January 20, 1924. He was the first of three children born to James Reece Kinser Sr. and Ethel May Tanner. He is predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Amour Lynn McGregor Kinser, parents, brother Douglas Barnett Kinser, and son-in-law Brink Biechlin.
Reece graduated from Sunset High School in 1941. Late in WWII he volunteered for the Army Air Corps, completing many missions as a waist gunner and radio operator aboard a B-24 bomber, in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged shortly after the conclusion of the war, and resumed his academic pursuits. While attending The University of Texas at Austin, he earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology, and met his future wife. They married December 22,1950, settling in San Antonio.
Reece was a member of the Texas Psychological Association and the San Antonio RoadRunners. He was active in St. David's Episcopal Church and was a volunteer at the SAMM Shelter. Reece will be remembered for his intellect, marathon running, love of hunting, his sense of humor and his gift for helping others through listening and counsel.
Reece is survived by his three children, Juliet Kinser Biechlin of Austin, James Reece Kinser III of Denver, Colorado, and Ann VanVechten Kinser of San Antonio. He is also survived by his brother, The Reverend Floyd Gilbert Kinser of Fort Worth, and three grandchildren, Robert Miles Biechlin, Emilie McGregor Biechlin and Hunter Reece Biechlin, all of Austin.
The family extends their gratitude to his devoted caregivers, Janie, Lia, Yvette, and Alma. His life was incredibly enriched by their constant love, care, and dedication.
