

He was a graduate of Edison High School, Class of 1946. For two years, he attended Southwestern College and in 1952, graduated from Baylor University Law School.
While at Baylor, he was on the Law Review for two years and served as President of his senior law class.
In 1954, he graduated from Officer Candidate School, served in the Judge Advocate General's Office in Korea for three years and completed his tour of duty with the rank of Lieutenant in March 1957.
After his military service, he returned to Texas and was Assistant to the State Bar General Counsel in Austin.
Later returning to San Antonio, he practiced law for 50 years.
He was a member of the San Antonio Bar Association and the Bar Foundation of San Antonio. Philip had a great love of music, was a member of the San Antonio Opera Guild and the San Antonio Art League.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Taylor Hamner and Gladys Murrell Hamner; brother, John Taylor Hamner, Jr.; and sisters: Irene Elizabeth Hamner, Lylie Jean Hamner and Virginia Hamner Horne.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diana Hamner; sons: John Hamner and wife, Patricia; Walter Hamner and wife, Kelly; grandchildren, Heather Hamner and Michael Hamner; brother, Rev. Robert M. Hamner and wife, Donna of Roanoke, VA; sister-in-law, Betty J. Hamner and brother-in-law, Hoke I. Horne of San Antonio; and many loving nieces and nephews. Phil was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He was kind, fair and thoroughly decent in all aspects of life ~ he will be dearly missed by many.
