

Phyllis A. Piet, age 89, of San Antonio, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2013. She was born November 7, 1923 to Edward and Blanche Mitchell Richards in Frederica, Delaware, the youngest of three children. Phyllis met T/Sgt. Wilbur H. (Bill) Piet in Dover, Delaware and married him in 1955. She was a career working woman, starting as a young woman with the Delaware State Board of Health and then working Civil Service jobs at the different Air Force bases that Bill was stationed, retiring after more than 25 years. After retiring, she remained very active, volunteering at North Central Baptist Hospital, the United Methodist Center, Bulverde United Methodist Church, and calling bingo for the last 12 years at Independence Hill Retirement Community. Through her life, Phyllis was very active with the VFW and was a Life Member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She and Bill also loved to travel, taking their RV across America. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, her parents, and her two brothers, George and Franklin Richards. She is survived by her son, William E. Piet and his wife Lolie; grandchildren, Valerie A. Smith and her husband Kenneth and FN William E. Piet II, USCG; two great grandchildren, Colten Tanner Smith and Hunter Mason Smith; nieces, Phyllis Moses and her husband Al and Helen Galenski and her husband Joe; and sister-in-law, Vera Rager and her husband Norb. The family would like to thank the staffs at Independence Hill, VITAS Innovative Hospice Teams 557 and 554, and Stone Oak Care Center for their loving kindnesses. A special thank you to Dr. Alison Garner, Becky Stephens and the staff at South Texas Oncology and Hematology on Sonterra - she loved you through it all.
