Rafael Licona Alvarez Sr.

Surrounded by the love of his family, Rafael Licona Alvarez Sr. age 66, was called by the Lord on Sunday, July 05, 2026, greeted into heaven by his Son Michael.

He was born February 19, 1960, in Poza Rica, Veracruz, Mexico, the son of Tito Alvarez Nochebuena and Maria Licona Mendez.

Rafael was someone who enjoyed laughter and making everyone feel special in their own way. He worked many years in the restaurant business in Mexico City, San Antonio, Texas and Nashville, Tennessee. His passion was creating art out of food, always able to identify the distinct flavors in every dish.

He had a constant thirst for knowledge, always up to date on world politics, pop culture, especially sports and his beloved soccer team Club America. In his final years he exemplified, resilience, compassion, redemption, and love.

Surviving are his Wife Betty, Son Rafael Jr., Grandchildren: Lynnzie, Dalaney, Mikey & Great Granddaughter Catalina. Sisters Maria, Adriana, and Angelica. Brothers Martin, Roberto, Antonio, David and various nieces, and nephews.

Preceding him in death is his son Michael Sr., Mother Maria, Father Tito, Brothers: Francisco, Tito, Miguel, and Fernando.

Visitation will be held on July 12, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm, with the Rosary recited at 6:00 pm at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, TX 78237.

On July 13, 2026, our doors open at 8:30 am, with a 10:00 am Funeral Mass to take place at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 617 S Santa Rosa Ave, San Antonio, TX 78204. Services will conclude after Mass.
