

Rafael was born May 14, 1926 in Poth, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents Rafael and Josefa Garcia and brother, Martin Garcia.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Alice Garcia, daughter Sylvia De La Pena (Hilario), daughter Patti Garza (Jesus David), son Ralph Garcia (Valerie), daughter Annette Castillo (Chris). He is survived by his grandchildren Ralph Garcia (fianc, Julie), Phillip De La Pena, Evonne Kroll (Brannon), Evette Aguilera (Humberto), Mathew Garcia , Estelle Garza, Michael Garcia (Shenise), Mark Castillo, Alyssa Castillo and Sean Garcia. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
At the age of 17, Rafael graduated from Fox Tech High School and enlisted in the US Navy, serving until the end of World War II. After the war he attended Texas A&I Kingsville majoring in Engineering.
He married Alice Salsedo on December 7, 1952. Rafael worked for the San Antonio Fire Department and Kelly Air Force Base retiring in 1986.
Rafael was a loving, generous, non-judgmental husband, father and grandfather. His legacy is the importance of education he instilled in his children and grandchildren.
During his retirement he enjoyed watching the SPURS, Longhorn and Aggie football games and spending time with family at his vacation home in Rockport, Texas.

On Tuesday, March 3rd, visitation will be held in the Porter Loring Chapel, 1101 McCullough from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 PM.
On Wednesday, March 4th a procession will depart Porter Loring Chapel at 9:15 AM for a Mass at 9:45 AM at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 1314 Fair Avenue, with interment to follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
