In Loving Memory of Ramiro R. Garcia Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, friend and mentor to many. Ramiro was born on Oct 2, 1942 in Laredo, Texas to Ponciano and Margarita Garcia. His family moved to San Antonio when he was four years old and he spent to next 68 years calling San Antonio home.
At the ripe old age of 13 he met the love of his life Elizabeth (Bettye) Ann Torres. He married her ten years later on August 14, 1965 and spend the next 49 ½ years building a life and family with her. Together they had four children: Ramiro, Steven, Sam, and Rose.
Ramiro served in the Army with the 238th Maintenance Company. In 1968, his unit was the first unit activated from San Antonio to deploy to Vietnam. After serving 10 months in Vietnam, he returned to San Antonio to fulfill his reserve commitment. Ramiro held his military service in high regard and was a proud veteran.
Ramiro retired from the San Antonio Light Newspaper after more than 30 years. Not ready for the life of leisure he continued his professional career for another 16 yrs at Parent Child Incorporated (PCI). After finally retiring in 2009 he found his true passion volunteering for the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. As a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church since 1981 he served on numerous ministries to include ACTs, Knights of Columbus, Extraordinarily Eucharistic Ministry, and of course the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
During his life he made lasting friendships and mentored many. As one of eight children, family was always important to him. He never missed an opportunity to get together with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers, sisters and friends.
As much as we are all sad for his passing and will miss him dearly, remember his love of family and friends and know he would want us to celebrate his life and not mourn his death.
Ramiro is preceded in death by his mother, father, brother, Ponciano and stillborn son.
He is survived by his wife of 49 ½ years Elizabeth, his sons Steven and his wife Ileana, Sam and his wife Annette, and his daughter Rose; grandchildren: Sarah, Samuel, Emma, Audrey, Aeneas, Isabella, Paulina, and Andrew.
