

Ramon attended Collier Elementary School, Southcross Middle School and Harlandale High School. He enlisted in the army during the Vietnam Era. He was stationed in various locations including Louisiana, Missouri, South Korea, and Germany. While in the service he worked as an Equipment Maintenance Operator and a Heavy Truck Driver Operator. In April of 1969, he married Janie (Juanita) Covarrubia.
Together they had four children. Ramon earned several distinguished awards while in the army including the Declaration of Medal Award; National Defense Service Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Marksman M16 Medal; and the Good Conduct Medal. He left the service in 1972 with an honorable discharge.
Throughout his life, he held various civilian jobs. He made his career of eighteen years as a United States postal worker where he delivered mail.
He had many stories about his postal adventures including the time when he was bitten by a dog.
He married Lupe Zamora and together they had one child. Later, he purchased his home on Imogene Street where he gladly welcomed his family and friends.
After he retired from his postal career, Ramon would spend his time helping others. He took interest in repairing bicycles, motorcycles, fishing, and finding bargains at estate sales. He was an avid eclectic collector. Ramon loved riding his motorcycle and visiting family and friends. He was a fascinating storyteller and would enjoy a good laugh. He was down to earth and enjoyed entertaining the crowd. He played the saxophone, guitar, trumpet and enjoyed singing. He may not have had many riches; however, he never hesitated to give the shirt off his back to help someone in need.
Ramon is survived by his children: Ramon Rodriguez, III; John Anthony Rodriguez; Ann Marie Rodriguez; Nancy (Michael) Granado; Anita Rodriguez; Angelica (Joe) Coronado.
Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren: Marisol A. Valdez; Victoria M. Rodriguez Villafranco; Matthew R. Rodriguez; Alexandria E. Villafranco; Damian M. Alfaro; Jose A. Medrano; Alejandro G. Villafranco; Rebecca Rodriguez; Mina Coronado; Asa Coronado; Daniel A. Rodriguez; Jack Rodriguez; and Faith Rodriguez. His great grandchildren are Aurora N. Rodriguez Villafranco; Nikolaius R. Rodriguez Villafranco; LennaLee N. Leal; Azayla D. Gutierrez; Harlee A. Alfaro; Itzamna Delafuente; Adahlia C. Gutierrez; Keanu L. Saldana; Khloe L. Saldana; Guiomar Delafuente; Gunner T. Alfaro; Kamila L. Saldana; Naviella B. Archer. His siblings include his sisters: Anita (Bill) Lowry; Mary (Juan) Garza; and Gloria (Jerry) Larios. He is also survived by several aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Ramon and Julia Rodriguez; and his infant granddaughter, Angelita B. Rodriguez.
Ramon will be missed by all who knew him. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, and captivating stories.
