Born on December 7, 1951, Pete was the son of Willard Monroe Mercier and LaTrell “Scooter” Duke Mercier. From an early age, he was curious about how things worked, a trait that shaped both his work and the way he showed up for others. He built a nearly 50-year career in the technology industry, navigating the evolution from mainframe computers to the digital age with remarkable adaptability, humility, and a gift for mentorship. Colleagues remember him for his ingenuity and leadership, and for being the person others trusted with their questions, always willing to help and solve problems.
In August 1974, Pete met Alanna, who would become his wife, best friend, and partner in all of life’s adventures. From the very beginning, they were inseparable, drawn together by an easy companionship, shared laughter, and a deep bond that only grew stronger with time. They married on June 3, 1978, and shared 47 years of marriage marked by enduring love, mutual respect, and steadfast devotion to family. Pete took great pride in his family and especially cherished his time as “PawPaw,” finding joy in the everyday moments and milestones of his eight grandchildren.
Outside of work, Pete found real satisfaction in building and fixing things, from home DIY projects to home networks. He was known for his dry sense of humor, outgoing charm, and rare ability to make people feel comfortable. Even during his illness, Pete carried himself with grace and courage, focusing on time with the people he loved and offering encouragement and wisdom to others.
Pete is survived by his wife, Alanna Marie Mercier; his children, Leah, Taylor, and Travis; daughter-in-law Jessica; and his grandchildren, Ayden, Ivy, Ava, Adalyn, Hayla, Haven, Avery, and Sloane, along with extended family members and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
While our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in the love Pete gave so freely and the steady, quiet strength he brought to every life he touched. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
