Raul was born in San Antonio, Texas to Luciano and Juana Villar on January 4, 1927. He attended Lanier High School in San Antonio and met his sweetheart Mary when he was only 16 and she was 15. He married Mary on April 5, 1948, in San Antonio, Texas and together they raised seven children. He worked as a Sheetmetal Welder for Kelly Air Force Base for 32 years before retiring in 1988. He was a veteran of World War II and served in both the Army and Navy.
Raul is preceded in death by his wife, Mary and his son, Manuel. Raul and Mary had just celebrated their 75th anniversary before she passed away in April of 2023.
Raul is survived by his children Sylvia Ramirez, Raul Villar, Jr., Rosalinda Ramos and her husband George, Paul Villar, Debra Villar, and Melinda Lozano and her husband Edgar; and grandchildren, John Ramirez, Andy Ramirez, Tanatha Villar, Melissa Villar, Valerie Villar, Paul Villar, Jr., Christopher Villar, Joseph Moncada, Giselle Lozano and Matthew Lozano as well as numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He’s also survived by his brother, Ricky Villar and his wife, Hortense, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Raul was devoted to the Virgen de Guadalupe and the Virgen de San Juan and would often travel to the Shrine of the Virgen de San Juan in McAllen, Texas to pray for family and those around him. Raul was rich in his faith, and he never missed a day of prayer. He and his wife, Mary, would visit their favorite churches every Wednesday and then they would go to lunch afterwards. It’s a ritual they did on a weekly basis.
In his later years, Raul enjoyed time at home with his wife and family, especially the holidays when everyone would gather. At the end of the evening, he would always announce he was going to bed and would tell everyone goodnight before he went to lay down. Raul will be remembered for being a wonderful father, grandfather, provider, mentor and most importantly, a devoted husband. Although our hearts are broken that he is no longer with us, we will forever hold him in our hearts until the day when we meet again. He will be truly missed by his family.
