Ray Joseph Singleton Sr.

Ray J. Singleton passed peacefully into eternity on 4/8/2016. Ray was born in Waco, Texas on 7/26/1923 to Ray Monroe and Hattie (Kochuba) Singleton. In 1941, Ray graduated from Fox Tech High School in San Antonio, TX with the intention of being a journalist. With the onset of World War II, he joined the US Navy in 1942 and served as an Aviation Machinist Mate in the Pacific through the duration of the war. He separated from the naval inactive reserve in 1952 as Petty Officer Second Class (ADE2).

Prior to his separation from the inactive reserves he was employed at Kelly Air Force Base initially as an aircraft mechanic. He retired from Kelly thirty-five years later as a GS13 in the Technical Services Division. During his tenure, he supported the maintenance and logistic efforts on the B-36 Peacemaker, F-102 Delta Dart, F-106 Delta Dagger, F-15 Eagle, OV-10 Bronco and the T-38 Talon.

After retirement from Kelly, he enjoyed several careers including being a Weight Watcher lecturer, a real estate broker, a co-owner of a self-service car wash and a real estate investor.

He married the love of his life, Mary Helen Guerra on May 1, 1950. They celebrated their 65th anniversary last May. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a charter member of St Pius X Catholic church. Ray enjoyed travel, playing cards and attended many fishing trips to the coast with former co-workers. He enjoyed swapping stories, pulling pranks and socializing with family and friends. He was a member of the Poteet VFW. Ray enjoyed meeting people, but did not suffer fools lightly. He is survived by his wife, Mary Helen, his three children, Ray, Harold (Jenny) Singleton and Sharon Calvert, six grandchildren, Mary Anne (Bart) Jones, Thomas Moffett, David Singleton, Rebecca (Mark) Powell, Rachel and James Singleton, four great grandchildren, Matthew Miller, Haylie Moffett, Abigayle Powell and William Jones, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
