

Raymond Chapa Chavez, age 87, passed into his eternal resting place on January 29, 2017. Mr. Chavez is survived by his wife Celia R. Chavez and children; Sandra Reed (Michael), Raymond Chavez Jr. (Luisa), Ruben Chavez, Diana Kordwaly (Marco), Rene Chavez (Nancy), and Ruben M. Chavez. Mr. Chavez is preceded in death by his parents Mr. Isaac Chavez, Maria De La Luz Chapa Chavez and son Isaac Chavez (Jacalyn). Mr. Chavez leaves behind siblings; Josefina Vela and Juan Chavez, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Mr. Chavez is a veteran of the Korean War, where he earned several medals, including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star to name a few. Mr. Chavez received several commendations for his dedication and bravery. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Marines never left him, as many friends and family will attest.
The Chavez family would like to thank all the staff from the VA, home care providers and nursing staff from Hospice that cared for Mr. Chavez. Heaven has gained a treasured soul, but he will live forever in our hearts.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2017 from 5pm-9pm with a rosary at 7pm at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino located at 2525 Palo Alto Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78211 (210) 924-5801. Procession will depart the funeral home on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 9:30 for a 10am mass at St. Bonaventure Church located at 1918 Palo Alto Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78211. Interment will follow at First Park Memorial located at 20567 Hwy 16, Von Ormy, Texas, 78073 with full military honors.
