

Raymond M. Vargas Jr, age 67, peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Methodist Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. He was a devoted, caring, and amazing husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, service, and dedication will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Raymond was born on November 1, 1956, in San Antonio, TX, to Raymond M. and Placida (Villanueva) Vargas Sr. Raymond attended and graduated from Memorial High School (Class of 1975). Upon graduating high school Raymond enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 18. Raymond completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO as a Telephone Installation Lineman, and departed the military as a Communication Specialist. In June of 1976 he returned to San Antonio to marry the love of his life, Yolanda. They returned back to Ft. Huachuca, AZ where he completed the rest of his military service time until 1979, and then returned back home to San Antonio.
He had a successful career in the Telecommunications Field (1979-2009). His career started at Advanced Telephone Systems and his final job was at American General Finance. During his professional career he attended San Antonio College where he earned an Associate Degree in Computer Programming and graduated in 1989.
Raymond's greatest joy in life was his family. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife, Yolanda, with whom he shared a deep bond. They were inseparable, and their love was an inspiration to all who knew them. They were blessed to be married for 48 years. Raymond was also a proud and loving father and grandfather, always putting his family first and cherishing every moment spent with his daughter Stephanie, and grandchildren, Samuel and Evelyn. Raymond enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed playing golf, seeing movies, and traveling. He will be remembered by his hard-working nature, his outgoing personality, sense of humor, and his willingness to help anyone in need.
Raymond is survived by his beloved wife, Yolanda; his daughter, Stephanie De Santiago; grandchildren, Samuel De Santiago and Evelyn De Santiago; mother, Tootsie Downing; father, Raymond M. Vargas Sr. (Roxana); brothers, Mark Vargas, David Vargas (Rosie); sisters, Cynthia Trevino (Roland Sr.), and Roxie Vargas.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Cleofas and Porfiria "Pearl" Vargas, Demencio and Maria Villanueva, and his son-in-law, Christopher De Santiago.
The family will receive guests beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
