Rebecca Ortiz Gonzalez was born on November 13, 1943 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Rodolfo Ortiz and Zulema Benavides. She and her younger sister, Teresa, were raised in San Antonio. Rebecca was an incredibly loving and caring person who lived her life with joy and integrity.
Rebecca graduated from Providence High School. She was grateful for the sisterhood that she and her classmates shared and she appreciated the spiritual guidance from the Sisters of Divine Providence. Her time in the Future Nurse Club made a positive impression on her and it was the beginning of a lifelong desire to help those in need.
Throughout her long career as a Registered Nurse, she worked at several of San Antonio’s premier hospitals and agencies. Her compassion, intelligence, attention to detail, and her ability to connect with her patients and colleagues in both English and Spanish were a few of the remarkable attributes that made her an exceptional nurse.
The kindness she exuded touched so many lives. She was a beautiful person with a sweet disposition and a generous heart.
She loved being present for all of the special moments in the lives of her children, grandchildren, sister, and brother-in-law. Whether it be attending a sports competition, recital, graduation, play, or musical performance, she enthusiastically supported them with words of encouragement and thoughtful compliments. Because of her devotion, she forged very close relationships with her loved ones and friends.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life from which she drew strength, guidance, and peace.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, Kenneth King. She is survived by her son, Miguel Gonzalez; daughters, Leticia London and Lisa Taylor and son-in-law, Scott Taylor. She is cherished by her grandchildren, Nicolas, Alexa, Lauren, Kate, and Isabella. She is survived by her sister, Teresa Newell and brother-in-law, Jim Newell.
Life with her was an absolute joy. Her legacy is one of love and faith. It will endure for generations to come. Although we mourn the loss of our beloved Rebecca, we find solace knowing that she is in eternal peace with Jesus Christ.
