Thank you Colonel Aune, on behalf of Americans of Vietnamese descent. Mathew 25:40.

My name is Lana (Thomas) Wampler. It is with deep sadness to have just found out about the passing of this extraordinary woman. To the military and immediate family I pray for your loss.
In 2001- 2003 I worked at 437th medical group in Charleston, S.C. as Civilian Quality Service Manager. My office was across from LtCol Aune's. I had the privilege of knowing her. After 22 years I had a copy of "Reflections on a Humanitarian Misson 20 years later: Operation Babylift" written by Lt. Col Aune. Dated November 1995.
The ironic part is on March 6, 2025 while trying to downsize I ran across this paper I had stashed away in a box of various military things I have keep since 1980.
I don't think I ever read the paper. I sat down and read her account of "Operation Babylift" some 30 years later. I delt so proud to have been in the presence of this hero.
Today I wanted to locate her. So over 22 years later I found Col Aune nit as I hoped . And along with all of her family and friends I am heart broken 💔 !

Col. Aune was one of the better leaders that I experienced at Charleston. I will not forget her.

Robert Gaynair.

Regina was my first sponsor as a new LT in the Air Force. She shared her life and her family with me and we kept in touch over the years.
She was a woman of her faith first, then family but the Air Force was her passion. She was a role model and mentor. Rest with the Lord.

The Alamo Chapter of the Society of Air Force Nurses will always remember Regina as a dear friend and colleague. You have our sympathy in the loss of your mother and grandmother. Know that for all her many accomplishments, you were all the best things that ever happened to her. May she rest in peace. Betty Andrews

Regina was a dear friend and colleague, both in the Air Force Nurse Corps and in the world of academia and nursing research. She was such a giving and sharing person, who I will greatly miss. The world is a better place because of Regina.
Beth Scannell - Desch, Col., USAF, NC (ret), PhD, RN, FAAN

She was a good friend of mine, we were in the same flying squadron and I remember her bravery during operation baby lift. She was always my hero and I'm so very sorry for your loss. She was a great and accomplished officer. I'm proud to have served with her.

On behalf of the Society of Air Force Nurses, please know we are also mourning with you the loss of our friend and colleague, retired Colonel Regina Aune. She was a remarkable woman in every way and made such a difference in the lives of many others during her own journey through life. Regina was a lifetime member of the Society, and a donation in her memory will be made to the Military Women's Memorial which stands at the entrance to Arlington National Cemetery. Regina will be missed by so many, and she will not be forgotten by the community of Air Force nurses.
Linda J. Stierle, Brigadier General, USAF (Retired)
