The Reverend Tom Jackson, 84, of San Antonio, TX went to be with the Lord March 17, 2018. Born December 17, 1933 to Herschel and Maxine Jackson in Smithville MS, raised in Georgia then made Texas his home.
Tom has reunited with his parents and 4 siblings Dudley, Sue, Herbert, Patsy; and his son Randy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Janette Jackson of San Antonio; Son Richard Jackson and his wife Dale of Woodstock Ga; Keith Vetters of San Antonio; Randy’s wife Sandra of Kennesaw Ga; 4 Grandchildren, Casey, Justin, Cody and his wife Morgan, Brenna and her husband Josh Kurz; 4 Great Grandchildren, Raigan, Lilliana, Evelyn and Ethan; Two loving Dachshund puppies, Lady Blue and Speckles; and his Dodge Ram Hemi.
Tom received his Undergraduate and Seminary degrees from Emory University in Atlanta and his Master’s degree at Long Island University. He served 2 tours in Vietnam during his 26 year distinguished career as a US Army Chaplain, retiring as a Lt Colonel in 1992. During his tours in Vietnam he was awarded a Bronze Star medal, 3 Oak Leaf Clusters with V Device for Valor, which is extremely rare for a Chaplain. He also received the Purple Heart for wounds received during the war. After retirement from the Army, he then went on to serve as Pastor of Browning United Methodist Church in south San Antonio for 18 years.
Devoted husband, loving father and genuine friend to all; he and his wife Janette have enjoyed traveling the world, life with family, while serving the lord. He was an active member of Oxford UMC where he loved their Praise Band with their contemporary uplifting music and amazing church family he found.
Memorial service will be held Tuesday March 20, 2018 at Oxford United Methodist Church, 9739 Huebner Rd at 12:00pm. Family will receive visitors from 11:00 to 12:00.
