Rey was born December 14, 1933 in San Antonio, Texas to Lillian Clara Goodlett and Vernon Charles Goodlett.
Rey married and divorced Hershel Ankrom. Their children are Karen Kapsidelis (deceased), Kevin Ankrom (Joan), Christy Ankrom-Berry (Rick), Michael Ankrom (F. William "Chick"). Her 10 grandchildren are Christopher Ankrom (Dawn), Amy Ankrom Sisneros (Rob), Bill Kapsidelis (Tracey), Nick Kapsidelis (Liz), Adam Berry, Thomas Berry, Jackson Ankrom Chickering, Lila Ankrom Chickering, Samantha Ankrom Chickering.
Her 7 great grandchildren are Jack Kapsidelis (Bill), Raelynn Sisneros (Amy), Liam Sisneros (Amy), Harrel Sisneros (Amy), Adam Kapsidelis (Nick), Patrick Kapsidelis (Nick), and Leila Kapsidelis (Nick).
During Rey's youth she grew up living with close relatives. After grade school she attended and graduated from Burbank High School. After graduating she went to work for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator. While working at the telephone company she met her husband to be, Hershel Ankrom. Rey and Hershel had 4 children; Karen, Kevin, Christy, and Michael.
Rey took her role as a mom seriously ensuring the children were well cared for. She wanted her children to be well rounded individuals in school, religion, extracurricular activities, and of course family. All four of her children graduated from college.
A faithful Catholic, she served humbly as a Eucharistic minister. When she had no money to give, she offered her hands and time, lovingly cleaning the church she cherished. She even welcomed Pope John Paul II to San Antonio, serving as an usher at his Mass.
When Rey became an empty nester she decided to attend college and get a degree that qualified her to work as a social worker. This was the start of a new career for her. A local news team interviewed her because at that time the concept of non-traditional students was not commonplace.
She worked as a social worker for years until an accident at work caused her to begin having seizures. This situation forced her to retire; even though she still wanted to work. Rey wanted to go back to work so she continued to renew her license and attend ongoing education which she would share with family and friends.
As the family grew, Rey was able to visit her children and grandchildren in Idaho and Maryland. In addition, she was able to make a trip to Italy and was able to meet distant relatives. She regularly stayed in touch with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She continued being the matriarch for the family, staying connected with family members and friends. She had a strong social network to interact with.
She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends.
Her memorial service will be on March 2, 2026 at the Sunset Memorial Park Chapel in San Antonio, Tx.
