Ray had a kind heart and a joyful spirit. He loved animals, especially dogs and cats. He enjoyed horseback riding and proudly rode in the Peanut Festival in Floresville, Texas. A man of many talents, he found joy in creating jewelry, gardening, and appreciating classic cars. Ray also loved to dance, especially at El Patio and La Estrella, where he spent many happy moments. Above all, he treasured spending time with his family, who were the center of his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Estevan and Bernadina Gutierrez; his brothers, Toribio, Adolfo, and Nicholas; and his sisters, Consuelo, Frances, Julia, Dolores, and Manuela.
Ray is survived by his devoted life partner of 47 years, Ruben Luna Jr.; his son, Shawn Kevin McHazlett; his sisters, Mary and Isabella; his brother, Estevan; and his grandchildren, Xavier Lamar Aguilar and Amethyst R. McHazlett, whom he proudly helped raise. He will also be deeply missed by numerous extended family members and friends.
Ray will be remembered for his warmth, his laughter, and the love he shared with those around him.
There will be a Visitation held Monday, September 1, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm, with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 pm at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 2525 Palo Alto Rd, San Antonio, TX 78211. On Tuesday, September 2, 2025 our doors will open at 8:30 am. A Funeral Mass will occur Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at 10:00 am St. Clare Catholic Church, 7701 Somerset Rd, San Antonio, TX 78211. Followed by burial at San Fernando Cemetery II, 746 Castroville Rd, San Antonio, TX 78237.
