

After 91 remarkable years, Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Reynaldo “Ray” M. Rios of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on April 22, 2026. Born on March 31, 1935, in Floresville, TX, Ray was defined throughout his life by his unwavering devotion to service, community, and family. A warrior in spirit, a servant at heart, and a man of honor, Ray leaves behind a legacy of strength, integrity, and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Rey honorably served in the United States Army for over 41 years, retiring with the distinction as a Sergeant Major. Throughout his military career, he earned numerous awards and decorations in recognition of his leadership, dedication, and faithful service to his country.
Ray was married to the love of his life, Linda Rios, from 1976 until her passing in 2021. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and commitment. He was also preceded in death by his son, Ray Rios, Jr.
He is survived by his loving children, Cynthia Rios, Thomas Rios, and Mario Martinez, Jr., and by his cherished grandchildren, Mercedes Martinez, Monet Martinez, and Victor Rios. His family was his greatest pride, and he treasured the time spent with each of them.
Beyond his military accomplishments, Ray was a devoted man of faith who faithfully served within his church and religious community for many years. He generously gave his time and heart in service to others, offering support to his church. He will also be remembered for his quiet strength, generous spirit, and deep love for his family.
Though he will be deeply missed, the legacy of Sergeant Major Reynaldo “Ray” Rios
will live on through the lives he touched and the family he loved so dearly.
A visitation will be held at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Ave, San Antonio, Texas 78212, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m.
Thursday, May 21, 2026, a Catholic Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 10703 Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78230. A graveside service with full military honors will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
