Rica C. Hartman, affectionately known as Ricki, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025, at the age of 89. Born in the heart of San Antonio at the Santa Rosa hospital on October 3, 1935, Ricki was a lifelong Texan, with the exception of a brief three-month period. She graduated from Edison High School and went on to earn a BBA from the University of Texas at Austin.
Ricki's professional life was dedicated to the insurance industry, where she worked for several companies and earned numerous professional designations. She ultimately retired from USAA, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.
Ricki married John Hartman (deceased) and together they shared a passion for travel and crafting. Their adventures took them to Switzerland, New Zealand, and Australia, creating cherished memories that lasted a lifetime. Closer to home, they enjoyed collaborating on craft projects; John built beautiful wooden pieces, which Ricki would then lovingly paint. They also shared a love for church and were active members of Coker United Methodist Church and the Questor’s Sunday School group where they met many friends.
A resident of Stone Oak since 1991, Ricki witnessed the area transform from a quiet community with a golf course and few houses to the bustling hub it is today. She was a beloved figure in her retirement communities, known for her infectious spirit and her exuberant holiday decorations. Ricki's festive displays weren't confined to her apartment; she adorned her entranceway and extended her cheer down the hallways, bringing joy to all who passed by. Even when macular degeneration robbed her of most of her sight, Ricki's spirit remained undimmed. She continued to find pleasure in movies, talking books, and, of course, decorating.
Ricki is survived by her daughter, Diana Ely (David); sons, Jack Bulkley (Jenny Vess) and Robert Bulkley (Sonja Quintero); grandchildren, Kyle and Mallory Bulkley, and Taylor and Wyatt (Jerica) Ely, Stephanie Rojo (Jamie), Robert Hartman, and David Alfonso-Hartman (Earl); and great-grandchildren, Laurel, Andrew and Eva Rojo, Elijah, Elise and Everleigh Alfonso-Hartman, and Thomas and Owen Smith.
Ricki's sweet personality, unwavering spirit, and love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, laughter, and holiday cheer will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
