Born in Fresnillo, Zacatecas, Mexico on May 16, 1935, to Jose Guadalupe Alvarado and Maria del Carmen Alanis.
During his youth, he enjoyed cycling, wrestling, and playing soccer. He was a talented singer who possessed a beautiful tenor voice. He took his first job at the age of seventeen in the gold mines of Zacatecas to help his parents provide for his three brothers and four sisters. As an adult, Ricardo earned an associate degree in auto-mechanics with a certification in automotive wiring. He met his wife Graciela Marty when he was 25 years old, while both employed at the General Electric light bulb factory in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. They married two years later, on November 30, 1963. Shortly thereafter, they purchased their first home in Guadalupe, Nuevo Leon, Mexico and started a family. In 1969, they moved to San Antonio, Texas where they raised five children and were heavily involved in raising their eight grandchildren. With the Lord’s blessing, Ricardo and Graciela were able to enjoy each other’s love and companionship for 61 years.
Ricardo was a diligent worker and avid provider. He began his professional career at Gonzalez Garage as an auto-mechanic, and a decade later changed careers and took a job as a heavy equipment assembler at Ingram Manufacturing Company. When that company closed its doors, he took a job at the Texas Military Institute where he maintained and repaired mechanical equipment. Later in life, before retiring, he changed jobs for the last time and went to work for Johnsons Control as an industrial air-condition assembler.
Throughout his life, Ricardo loved working on cars, especially the classics. On any given day you could find him in his driveway tinkering away on his 1962 Chevrolet Impala and his 1954 Ford F-150. His second love was visiting his family in Monterrey. For decades, the “Alvarado-Marty” clan summered at the “Alvarado-Sanchez” residence, the place they consider their second home.
Ricardo is preceded in death by his parents Jose Guadalupe Alvarado and Maria del Carmen Alanis; brother, Manuel Alvarado; and sister, Guadalupe Martinez. Ricardo is survived by his loving and devoted wife Graciela; his children, Jose Alvarado (Rudy), Ricardo Alvarado (Carmen), Zenaida Robles (Florencio), Claudia Hernandez (Robert), Ruben Alvarado (Christina); his grandchildren, Karen Alvarado (Martin), Chelsea Alvarado (Sean), Luis Carlos Robles (Vanessa), Erika Rodriguez (Alberto), Marissa Robles (Sean), Marcela Rivera (Kevin), Alec Hernandez, and Ethan Alvarado; twelve great-grandchildren; brothers, Francisco Alvarado and Alejandro Alvarado; and sisters Evelia Navarro, Marta Morin, and Patricia Ruiz.
