Ricardo lived a happy life. His life was a blessing to so many. He was so loved and he will be dearly missed.
He was the loving husband to Ana Montemayor Gomez, loving father to Ricardo J. Gomez, David A. Gomez and Michael J. Gomez, loving stepfather to Annette B. Carter, Karina Cantu Hiddemen, and Xavier A. Cantu, loving grandfather to Olivia and Evalyn, and friend to many.
Ricardo will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his wife, children and friends. He truly loved each of them-and if you knew him, you knew it. He called his 30 years with Ana a beautiful love story. They enjoyed dining out, going to family gatherings and listening to their favorite music together. Ricardo often made mixed CDs for Ana to express his love. They were soulmates.
Ricardo was all about family. He loved spending time with his children and family. With his sons, he would watch football and MMA fights. They often would have backyard barbecues and talk and play music games. They will remember him as a 100 percenter who loved them unconditionally. His kids as he called his children and stepchildren, all enjoyed his sense of humor and his ability to be a great listener and give supportive advice. He was always present and engaged in his loved ones' lives, celebrating important life events, and enjoying many family get-togethers. Ricardo had the spirit of a warrior, a fighter, and he had a fierce love for his family. He had a strong influence on everyone he knew and cared for and because of that he will live on in all his kids, in all of us. He leaves behind a legacy of love.
At the time when Ricardo was called back to our Lord God almighty, he went to God with grace, dignity and strength. He was blessed with the presence of mind to give a final goodbye to each of his children, stepchildren, and wife. These final moments will forever be cherished.
Ricardo was the beloved son of Ricardo V. Gomez and Olimpia H. Gomez. He was born in Laredo, Texas. He grew up on Matamoros St., the same house he lived in when he was born. His parents enjoyed watching him participate in sports. In the early years, Ricardo played little league with the Jay-Cees. Later, his parents enjoyed attending and traveling to all his football games with St Joseph Academy. Ricardo also participated in martial arts and earned a black belt. He had a happy childhood and strong bond with his parents.
In 1973, “Geeter” as he was known to his friends graduated from Saint Joseph’s Academy. It was in high school where he forged many lifelong friendships. He often remembered his classmates whom he referred to as brothers, since many of them had been together since the fourth grade; Chendo Carranco, Tony Pogue, Luis de la Garza, Joe Camero, Mario Aguilar Fidel Santos. He also fondly remembered Lulu, Aida and Cookie. While at St. Joe Ricardo played football and was selected as one of the football captains by his teammates. The 1973 St Joseph team went all the way to the state finals. His friends remember Geeter’s kindness, loyalty, zest for life, and passion for football.
After high school graduation, Ricardo continued his education at Texas A&M University in College Station where he received his degree in Industrial Engineering Technology. He loved being an Aggie. After completing his studies, Ricardo joined the family’s manufacturing business. Ricardo, alongside his cousin Jaime Garcia, ran the radiator manufacturing plant and the brake shoe manufacturing plant in Nuevo Laredo.
