Richard Rient Bergner

Richard and his younger brother Donald grew up on a farm in Pratt, Kansas while being raised by their parents Rient and Grace Bergner. Richard loved the outdoors and carried on the family tradition as a proud and dedicated farmer. The success of his farming career cannot be understated. He cared for all aspects of his farming and tried to make a difference for all farmers by driving his tractor to Washington, D.C. to make his opinions known. His management of land and livestock was much more than a full-time job which he devoted himself to every day of his life.

Richard skillfully used his carpentry skills to build a lovely brick ranch-style home and provided an immaculate, finely-tuned home place. He and Jean Herd married on January 17, 1943 and built their lives on the farm while raising two daughters, Peggy Lynn and Janis Lee.

Our father was a very hard working yet fun loving man who rarely complained. He believed in moderation and yet lived his life with much gusto. He was known for his many athletic hobbies such as water skiing, snow skiing, ping-pong and playing cards. He especially loved driving any kind of boat, truck, car, RV or ATV and "the faster-the better!"

He waited until his girls were in college before acquiring his pilot's license. He loved the freedom and adventure of flying across the clear blue sky while checking out the farm from above. This was a truly invigorating hobby and accomplishment that he greatly loved.

His strong physique rescued his girls from many fearful situations. When an urgent need arose, he was the man who everyone wanted in charge. Never knowing a stranger, he was always quick to meet the needs of others ahead of his own. His laughter was contagious which resulted in his playful teasing personality.

Richard was a man of few words, but when spoken, were heartfelt and sincere.

Richard, our Daddy, made his mark on the world and made an everlasting difference that will be forever in our hearts. We love and miss him very much. This DVD is a celebration of his life on this earth and is to be a constant reminder of the difference he made in the lives of so many. We love you Daddy!
