

Lt. Col. Richard Lewis "Dick" Davis, age 85, of San Antonio passed away on Monday, January 23, 2017. He was born on September 2, 1931 in Mansfield, Ohio to Samuel Abner Davis and Georgia Bell Guthrie Davis.
Dick attended Randolph Macon Academy Preparatory School and Ohio State University, where he received his B.S. in Education.
As a pilot in the Air Force, Dick flew the B-26, C-130, and C-141. He was responsible for his plane and crew on missions around the world, including the United States, Europe, Asia, Easter Island, Mauritius Islands, Okinawa, and Panama. One of his favorite stories was telling how he was responsible for transporting President John F. Kennedy's vehicles. Dick served one year in Vietnam during the war, and ended his military career as Commander of the 57th Military Airlift Squadron.
After his military service, he invested in his first Baskin Robbins Ice Cream Store in San Antonio. He and his wife, Chris, owned five stores at the time of their retirement.
His retirement years were spent enjoying family, friends, and church. Dick was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church for over 40 years, during which he served as a choir member, Treasurer, Junior and Senior Warden, and chairman of various committees. He also served as Chairman of Potato Skins for Night in Old San Antonio for 10 years. Dick loved keeping current on politics, the Dallas Cowboys, and Ohio State University Football.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Dora Christine "Chris" Davis; children, Dwight Dean "Tad" Davis (Wendy), Jill Ellen Davis Strauss (Kurt) and Jon Eric Lull (Tammy); grandchildren, Carl Richard Strauss (Staci), Samantha Loyal Queck (Ryan), Casey Newhouse Davis, Ruby Lea Davis and Eric Stephen Lull; great-grandchildren, Kurt, Madilynn, Eli, Dakota, and Joseph; and his sister, Nancy Ellen Cochran.
