

Richard Victor Di Filippo, born February 19, 1928 in St. Paul Minnesota, died Sunday, January 27, 2013 at the age of 84. Richard was a graduate of Brackenridge High School and St. Mary's University with a BBA. Richard retired from The Venice Art Terrazzo Co., Inc. with over 41 years of service as Owner and President. After succeeding his father in the family business founded in 1934, some of his most notable jobs included the State Capital, Bexar County Courthouse, and Santa Rosa Hospital, in addition to numerous other hospitals, schools, and courthouses throughout Texas. His wife and two of his sons now run the business. Richard was a member of the Christopher Columbus Italian Society, UNICO, the Knights of Columbus, and Holy Name Society. He served as past President of the National Terrazzo & Mosaic Association, and the Southwest Terrazzo Association, and on numerous boards and directorships. Throughout his life he remained active with the Boy Scouts and served as assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 445 and received Wood Badge Advance Training
for Adult Leaders. While in Scouting, he was elected to the Order of the Arrow Brotherhood, and also received the St. George award for Catholics in Scouting. He lived to see his four sons, five grandsons, and one granddaughter earn the highest ranks in Scouting including Eagle Scout and Gold Award respectively. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose Di Filippo; sister, Lorraine Di Filippo; and brother, John H. Di Filippo. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Jo Hrncir Di Filippo; daughter, Laure A. Rasor (Richard); sons, Richard V. "Rick" Di Filippo, Jr. (Deborah), John L. Di Filippo (Patricia), Lawrence H. Di Filippo (Sandra), and William J. Di Filippo; grandchildren, Stephanie Rasor, John D. Di Filippo (Katherine), Aaron Di Filippo, Mathew Di Filippo, Cathrin Di Filippo, Sarah Rasor, Nick Rasor, Rebecca Di Filippo, Andrew Di Filippo, and Mary Shannon Di Filippo; sisters, Theresa Blaschke (Paul), and Julia Habermann. The family wishes to thank the loving and caring nurses at the Methodist Hospital MSICU and the VITAS Inpatient Hospice Unit at Methodist Hospital. Memorial flowers or donations are welcome. Donations may be sent to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in memory of Richard Di Filippo.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 1, 2013 from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
