

He was born May 29, 1939 in Auburn, New York to Raymond and Doris Donovan. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Richard served in the U.S. Army for three years before joining IBM. He retired from IBM with 30 years of service.
He was an avid runner and member of the S.A. Roadrunners. He was a member of the Harp and Shamrock Society, was elected Irishman of the Year in 2010 and for 30 years he organized and directed their St. Patrick's Day Run. He helped direct and organize races for many charitable groups.
Richard was a kind and gentle man, a friend to all with a twinkle in his eye and quick Irish wit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Doris Donovan and his brother, Ray Donovan.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Sandy Donovan; children, Richard Donovan, Jr. and his companion, Melissa, Leslie Martino and husband, Joe, Kirsten Donovan, Christine Spurlock and husband, Phil; grandchildren, Austin, Joseph, Nicole and Brett Martino, Audrey, Charles and Jack Spurlock; sisters, Margot Lacher and Mary Anne Donovan; brother, Michael Donovan and wife, Catherine, sister-in-law, Marlena Donovan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
