

Richard graduated from Wellesley High School in Wellesley, Massachusetts. He joined the Air Force after graduating high school, and served 4 years in active duty and 2 years in inactive duty. Richard met Mary Lou while he was stationed at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, Kansas. They met on July 4th, 1963 and were joined together in marriage shortly after on July 4th, 1964. Richard spent most of his career in television. After moving to San Antonio in 1982, he served as executive director of CTSA.
Richard is survived by his wife Mary Lou. They had three children: Kelly Jean (deceased) and is survived by Carrie Krueger and Richard Jr. (R.J) Hemberger and wife Heather Hemberger. He is also survived by his grandchildren: David Davila, Stephen and Jason Krueger, Kelly Ray and Shelby Dell Hemberger, and two great granddaughters Arabella Socorro, and Mia Marie Davila. Richard us also survived by a brother William "Bill" Hemberger and wife Susan Hemberger.

A visitation for Richard will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. A funeral will occur Tuesday, February 11, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. A committal will occur Tuesday, February 11, 2025 from 1:15 PM to 1:45 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
