It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard Hernandez, age 77, on August 10, 2025, after a courageous, decade-long battle with cancer. Born on March 4, 1948, Richard’s life was defined by his love for his family, his commitment to his country, and his enduring presence in the community he served.
A proud United States Navy veteran, Richard served with distinction during the Vietnam War. His service to his country was a defining chapter in his life, and he carried the values of duty, honor, and loyalty throughout his years. After his military service, Richard became a beloved barber, serving generations of families in Lytle, TX. For decades, his steady hands and warm heart were a fixture in the community. Richard took great pride in the relationships he built, offering not just haircuts but also advice, kindness, and a listening ear to all who sat in his chair. His legacy as a barber was not only in the skills he shared but in the trust and camaraderie he built with his customers, many of whom considered him a friend as well as a barber.
Richard was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Esperanza Hernandez, who passed away in 2017. Their love was the foundation of his life, and he carried her memory with him always.
Richard leaves behind his two sons, Jose and Ricardo Jr.. Jose, along with his wife Jenny, and their children Julian, Mia, and Zoey, will remember him as a loving father and grandfather who always made time for family. Ricardo Jr., his devoted son and primary caregiver, was by his side through his final days, providing love and support as Richard had done for him throughout his life. Along with his wife Samantha, Ricardo Jr. raised their children—Ricardo III, Aidan, Vicente, and Vida—each of whom brought immense joy to Richard’s life. Vicente was his best friend, and Vida was the light of his later years.
Richard’s legacy of hard work, love, and service will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the generations of families he served in Lytle. His impact was far-reaching, and he will forever be remembered for his kindness, his dedication, and his unwavering love for those around him.
