

Richard was born on February 10, 1928, and lived a full life in San Antonio. He attended Fox Tech High School leaving early to serve in the US Navy from March 1945 until July 1946. He then returned to San Antonio and graduated from Fox Tech High School. Richard also proudly served with the San Antonio Fire Department from 1949 through 1992. He retired as a Lieutenant spending most of his career with Engine Company 4 and Inspections.
Richard is preceded in death by his father, Jose Martinez; his mother, Florence Reyna; his step-father, Cruz Reyna; his sister, Ernestine Cervantes; and his step-son Mark Rodriguez. Richard is survived and missed by his loving wife, Rose Martinez; and half-sister, Arcelia Mendoza. He is also survived by three children from a previous marriage: Richard Martinez (Beatrice), Loretta Porter (David), and George Martinez (Pam). He is also survived by his step-children, Diana Galvan (Ernest), Alex Rodriguez (Debbie), and Kathy Zywina (Mark). He is survived by his six grandchildren: Christian Martinez, Julia Morris, Sonia Sharples, Andrew Rodriguez (Angela), Sarah Schneider (Charles), and David Galvan (Alexus). He is also survived by his eight great-grandchildren: Reyna and Navy Morris, Natalie and Gavin Sharples, Mila and Nico Rodriguez, and Amelia and Andrew Schneider. He is also survived by many more extended family, and his entire family will miss him immensely.
Richard leaves behind a tapestry of enduring memories etched in the hearts of those he touched. He loved taking pictures. He took lots and we mean lots of photos of us and our family as we were growing up and beyond. We will always have those photos and all the great memories that came with them etched in our hearts forever.
We will miss you Dad but take solace knowing that you are no longer in pain and that you will be reunited with your loved ones who have gone before you.
