

Dick passed away on Tuesday, the 25th of June, 2024 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 89 years where he and his wife Marilyn have resided in retirement since 2010. Both of his parents, Benjamin Eugene Jr. and Vilna Mae McFerrin and an older brother, Benjamin Eugene McFerrin III preceded him in death. He leaves behind his beloved wife and best friend, Marilyn; three children, Kevin Ann Baumann and husband Eddie of San Antonio, Karen Wright and husband Tim of Belize, and Rick McFerrin and wife Mercy of Burleson, Texas; grandchildren Jenny Forsyth, Chris Hughes, and Kristin Wright; and great grandchildren Braxton Forsyth and Breigha, Kaeden, and Carter Hughes; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Dick was born on December 29, 1934 at the home of his grandparents, F.M. and Ethel Angel, in Harrison, Arkansas. The family moved to Miami, Oklahoma in 1942 and then to Baxter Springs, Kansas in 1944 where Dick graduated from Baxter Springs High School in 1952. He then attended Joplin Jr. College (now Missouri Southern State University) on a football scholarship. In 1955 he went to work for Sunray Oil Corp. in Lake Charles, Louisiana in the drafting department. The same year, Dick married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Ann Ingram, daughter of Wilmer and Irma Ingram, all of Baxter Springs. Dick and Marilyn lived in Lake Charles until 1956 when the company moved its offices to Lafeyette, Louisiana, where they resided until 1959 when Dick was transferred to the Shreveport office as District Lead Draftsman. In 1963 Dick took a job in Tulsa, Oklahoma as Chief Draftsman with Erling Helland Associates and stayed there until 1966 when he went to work for Williams Brothers Engineering Company, also in Tulsa. Dick was with Williams Brothers until 1974 when he joined Bigheart Pipeline Company as Chief Draftsman. He was later named Superintendent of Construction and Technical Office Services. Dick stayed with Bigheart until 1987 when they were bought out by Koch Industries. Dick worked for Koch Gathering Systems for 2 years until he returned to Williams Brothers in 1989. In 1991 Williams Brothers was bought out by the Fluor Corporation and the name changed to Fluor Daniel Williams Brothers Engineering Company. This was the company name when Dick permanently retired with the title of Principle Designer in April 1994.
Dick and Marilyn moved to the Alabama Gulf Coast in 1997 near Gulf Shores and Orange Beach and resided there until 2010 when they moved to San Antonio to be closer to their family. Dick was a teller of tall tales, an avid Civil War buff, and loved fishing, college football, and his family. He was instant friends with every dog he ever encountered.The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 5, 2024 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
