

Richard M. Medellin, Jr. ("R.M.") was born in San Antonio, Texas and is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Mary E. Medellin. Together they had 3 children and 5 grandchildren: son, Richard Medellin III and grandsons, Damien Matthew Medellin and Timothy Alexander Medellin; daughter, Rachel Medellin-Solis and husband, Roberto Solis and grandchildren, Carolina Christina Solis and Elijah Enrico Solis; daughter, Elisa Marie Medellin and husband, Nicolas Perales.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Maria Victoria Medellin and his baby brother, Pete.
He lived a very active life delighting in quality time with his family. He enjoyed going fishing with his children and grandchildren. He would start every morning sitting on his patio whistling with the birds. When he wasn't fishing or enjoying his quiet mornings he was showering his fur baby, Daisy, with affection. He even dedicated a song to her, "Who's the baby of the house, her name is Daisy; She drives me crazy, she's the one for me".
R. M. had an incredible work ethic, which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. He was an accomplished insurance salesman. He had a successful 30-year long stint with American National Insurance Company (ANICO) and completed an additional 20 years as an independent insurance broker. He spent the last years of his life managing his investment properties taking every opportunity to share his knowledge with his children and grandchildren.
Although R.M. was a remarkable businessman with many talents, he will best be remembered for his infinite love for his family.
The family will receive guests from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Ave. A Rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m.
On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, a procession will leave Porter Loring Mortuary at 9:15 a.m. for a Mass beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 600 Oblate Dr.
Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
