Richard was born December 28, 1951 in Durant, Oklahoma to Anna Mae and Richard John (Dick) Miller. He married Latricia Burchett on August 18, 1973 and the couple graduated from the University of Oklahoma in December 1977. After graduation, they relocated to the Houston area, where Richard worked in both public and private accounting before establishing his own Systems Administration company, Business Education Network in 1984. Richard retired in the Fall of 2009 after 25 years of successful entrepreneurship.
He and his wife relocated to San Antonio in the Fall of 2012 to be closer to family and to enjoy the beautiful Texas Hill Country. He was a member of his beloved Alamo Heights United Methodist Church (AHUMC). Outside the church, he was an active member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), enjoying the fellowship of like-minded Christian men and studying the Word of God.
Richard was known for his unique sense of humor, infectious laugh, and his loyalty to those who knew and loved him. He delighted in music, photography, boating, good food, and making people laugh -- especially his three granddaughters. He treasured his roles as the family photographer and self-appointed family music curator -- creating the soundtrack for everything from daily chores to his yearly Christmas albums.
Richard is survived by his wife, Tricia of San Antonio; his daughter, Erin Miller Hamilton and her husband, Cory and their three children, Lyla, Adelynn, and Emery, of Ann Arbor, Michigan; his son, Richard John (Rick) Miller III and his wife, Brittani of Austin, Texas; his sister, DiAnne Huff and her husband, Tim of Norman, Oklahoma and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00am, Friday, January 6 at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church in San Antonio, with Pastor John Hargis, his first cousin, officiating. Memorial donations in honor of Richard may be made to AHUMC or the American Heart Association.
