Richard was born on April 24, 1937 in San Antonio, Texas to Andrés and María Sciaraffa. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1955 and attended Texas A&I University. He lived a colorful and adventurous life, making each story better than the last and building friendships at every turn. As a young man, he was a respected Golden Gloves boxer in the light heavyweight division, known for his powerful left jab and impressive win-loss record. Richard had a passion for business; as an entrepreneur and real estate developer, he owned various businesses starting with his paper route through Tobin Hills in 1945. He was also an avid music lover and owned and operated live music venues from the early 1970s through 2014, including the White Rabbit and Pappy's, to name a few. Richard was known for his quick wit, his impish smile, and his brio. He was also known for wanting everything done "My Way"— the phrase made famous by Frank Sinatra was the ultimate mantra for Richard's life.
