Richard Joseph Simon

Richard J. "Dickie" Simon passed into heaven on Monday, October 28, 2013. As a devout Catholic, spirituality was an important part of his life. When he faced an obstacle, committed to a course, cause, or idea, he followed through with a dogged determination that was hard to match. During his high school years at St. Gerard High School in San Antonio he was all-city running back and he enjoyed many such physical activities until he paralyzed his left arm in a motorcycle accident. He loved his country and served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1966.

He loved his wife Elizabeth and cared for her during her fight with breast cancer; she preceded him in death in 2005. He is also preceded by his mother Mary Ann Simon, father Gunther Simon, his sister Michael Ann "Mickey" Towner and brothers Paul David Simon and Fred Thomas Simon. He is survived by children Richard Simon, Jr., Patricia Jean Theis, Grandchildren Jennifer Simon, Jessica Simon, Julie Powers, Skyler Theis and Siblings Buddy Simon, Sandra Young, John Simon and Mary Jane Steubing.

Visitation will be from 6-9pm on Monday, November 4, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78218. A funeral service will take place at 10:00am on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 1617 Iowa St. San Antonio, TX 78203.
