Richard Gumb Thomas

Richard G. Thomas passed away June 19, 2011. He was born April 21, 1921 in Burwell, Nebraska to Francis M. and Emily Gumb Thomas. He was a graduate of Burwell High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Arts from the University of Omaha. Richard spent many years teaching math in Nebraska, California and Texas. He spent his summers teaching riflery at boy’s camps and over the years earned numerous riflery medals. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brother, sister; daughter, Caroline King and step-son John Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Lorane; sons Jerry and wife Dianne and Tom and wife Diana; daughters, Leanne and husband Rusty, and Sherry and husband Craig; stepchildren, Lyndol Anderson and wife Martie, Cathey Kail and husband Hardy and Stewart Anderson and wife Judy. Between them Richard and Lorane have 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 from 7:00pm until 8:00pm at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. Graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 2:00pm at Sunset Memorial Park.
