Richard followed in his dad’s footsteps by enlisting into the Navy where he did his 20 and retired. When anyone thanked him for his service he always answered with “it was my privilege and honor”. After the Navy he did over the road driving for Trimac Transportation and then hung up that chapter to spend time at home. He then took a job at VK Knowlton where he worked until he passed. But the greatest job he had was being a dad. Then later, a grandpa. Richard had a few passions in his life. The Navy, Golf which he shared with his dad, brother, and sons. And his LOVE of flamingos. We sent Richard to the afterlife with his Navy shoes “I’d rather be golfing socks” and a bright pink shirt (for his love of flamingos) black vest and slacks. He loved to look sharp and that is how we said goodbye to him.
Richard is predeceased by his parents Carol and Enis. He is survived by his loving wife Carol Johnson, son Justin Wieding and his wife Lauren and their son Owen, son Cody Wieding, daughter Shelby Grammer and her husband Ryan and their children Sophia and Olivia, daughter Jennifer Whitney and her husband Levi. His sister Vickie Wieding Clausen and her sons Christian, Stephen, Matthias and Johann, brother Robert and his wife Lisa, twin sister Susan Melancon and her husband Steve and their children Joey and Meagan. And all the brothers, sisters, sons and daughters that he collected along the way.
Rick never met a stranger. He would say that a stranger is only someone you have not said Hi to.
In closing, Richard, it was my privilege and honor to be by you side until the end. I love you.
