Mrs. Rita A. “Sissie” Johnson, passed away at her home in San Antonio, Tx on August 27, 2018. She was born to Harold and Nora (Dunn) Kunz on March 24, 1935 in Laredo, Tx. She was a devoted wife, and loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend that will be dearly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Harold Kunz Jr.; son, Norris “Jimbo” Johnson, and her loving husband of 56 years, Norris “Lefty” Johnson. She is survived by her children; Claude, Christine (Bill), Beth (David), P. J. (Margaret); brother, John Kunz; sister, Kathy Gruber; 9 grandchildren, 24 great grand- children, numerous nieces and nephews as well as many relatives and friends. Great-grandchild #24 joined the family on the night she went "HOME"
Sissie was known to all as a gentle sweet spirit and a powerful woman of prayer. While raising her children she worked a full-time job, served as Cub Scout Den Leader, Girl Scout Leader, and Softball Coach. Sissie loved camping with the family and fishing with her "Lefty" at the beach on far North Padre Island. She danced with ease and grace and some of the family's greatest memories are of singing around the piano played by her on many holidays. Sissie had a tremendous faith in her Roman Catholic religion and was a faithful, dedicated, founding member of St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church. She loved her family completely and lived life to the fullest, even as she was preparing to leave this world.
Visitation will be August 31, 2018 from 12-3pm with a 1 pm Rosary at Sunset Funeral Home. Visitation will resume on September 1, 2018 at 10am and Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 am on September 1, at St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church. Procession will follow services immediately afterwards to Nockenut Cemetery in Stockdale, Tx.
