Rita L. Kelly

She was preceded in death by her husband CW4 Matthew T. Kelly US Army retired, infant daughter Michaelene Kelly, and her parents Francis P. Lawrence and Mary Phillips Lawrence.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Christine Kelly of Chicago, IL; daughter and son-in-law Cecilia and Terry Buechner of San Antonio; granddaughter and grandson-in-law Lisa and Christopher Gornall of Chicago, IL; grandson and granddaughter-in-law Erik and Christie Buechner of Poquoson, VA; grandsons Kirk Buechner and Keith Buechner of San Antonio; great grandchildren Skyler and Cody Buechner; and sisters Sr. Mary Clemens, CSJB of Purchase, NY and Mary McDermott of Valley Stream, NY.

She settled in San Antonio with her husband after 27 years as an army wife during which time she lived in Japan, the Panama Canal Zone, and Germany. She volunteered her services as Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout leader, hospital Pink Lady, religious education teacher and church lector.

She worked to help the poor and refugees and was presented with the "Spirit of America Award" by the Migration and Refugee Services of the United States Catholic Conference. She is a past-president of the San Antonio Hospitality Club as well as co-founder and past-coordinator and treasurer of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church Christian Services Committee. She was an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church for many years.
