Lt. Col. Robert Bullock Cocke Jr, USAF (Ret) from San Antonio, Texas went to be with the Lord on February 21st 2016 following a short battle with cancer. He was a resident of Windcrest, Texas and was 79 years old.
Bob was born in San Antonio, Texas on May 10th, 1936 to Sgt Robert Cocke and Mildred Wiemers. He graduated from Brackenridge High school and enlisted in the marine reserves before joining the US Air Force and earning his pilot wings and commission in 1960. He served as an officer in a military career that spanned 21 years. Bob was an accomplished pilot with over three thousand flight hours including combat time in Vietnam. His military honors include the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with Bronze Star and the Air Medal. He married Ms. Eileen Christina Kelly on September 14th, 1975 in Houlton, Maine. She was the love of his life.
Bob was a well traveled individual, having seen much of the world before returning to his family home in San Antonio. His travels included a prolonged stay in the Republic of Ireland with his family. He was also a devout Christian who established a small church in Spring Branch, Texas which he pastored with his wife.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. He is survived by his brother, Mr. William G. Cocke and his six children, Mr. Robert B. Cocke III, Mrs. Nora A. Brand, Mrs. Ellen C. Nolan, Ms. Tara Cocke, Mr. David M. Cocke and Lt Col Robert P. M. Cocke. He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren.
The burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 7th at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
