

Mr. Robert Contreras a native of Universal City, Texas and a resident of San Diego, California passed suddenly at his residence in San Diego, California on Tuesday, January 6, 2015. He was born to the parentage of Filiberto and Elida Chapa Contreras on October 13, 1956 in Mathis, Texas. Robert, 1975 graduate of Samuel Clemens High School, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1976, and was honorably discharged in December 1981. His military decorations included the Humanitarian Service Medal, among others.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Filiberto and Elida Contreras; and sister Elsa Alicia Contreras.
He is survived by two devoted sisters, Dalia Contreras (John) Jones of Mobile, Alabama; and Victoria Contreras Lee of Wichita, Kansas; nephews, Phillip Lee and Christopher Lee both of Wichita, Kansas; and Marques and Michael Jones, Jr., both of Mobile, Alabama; one niece, Zakiyyah Ward of Mobile, Alabama; two devoted uncles, Samuel (Delia) Chapa of Sandia, Texas and Eloy (Olivia) Chapa of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; aunt, Maria Chapa Garza of Port Lavaca, Texas; Devoted cousins, Sylvia Contreras of Universal City, Texas, and Christian (Sarah) Contreras and family of Converse, Texas; devoted friends, Conrad Tanjuaquio of San Diego, California, and the Robinson Family of San Antonio, Texas; the supervisors, especially friends and co-workers at the Department of Housing and Community Development of San Diego, California; and many other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 2:45 p.m. Thursday, January 29, 2015 with military honors at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Condolences may be offered at www.sunsetfuneralhomesa.com.
