Robert Bob Howard Danner

Robert Bob Howard Danner died peacefully on January 4, 2007, at the age of 84, in the Health Care Center at the Army Residence Community ARC. Bob was born on May 25, 1922, to Mamie and Sid Danner in the Emmaus Community of East Texas.

Bob is preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Etta Florine "Flo" Watson Danner, brother, Vernon Danner and parents Mamie and Sid Danner.

Bob graduated from New Summerfield High School in 1940 and Texas Christian University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

He enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps CCC in the late 1940s and worked on conservation projects in Arizona. Later he worked for North American Aviation in Dallas as a production supervisor in their aircraft factory.

A passion for flying led him to join the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943. After completing flight training, he was assigned to the 708th Squadron, 447th Bomb Group at Rattlesden, England. He flew 35 combat missions in B-17 bombers. His B-17, the "Linda Sue", was one of the first bombers to shoot down a German Messerschmitt Me-262 jet fighter.

During the 21 years that took Bob and his family halfway around the world, he received multiple recognitions including a "Letter of Commendation" for meritorious performance from Lieutenant General Genda, Commander of Japan Air Self Defense Force. Bob retired in 1963 and settled in Ft. Worth, Texas.

He worked several interesting jobs, but his desire to complete his college degree lead him to enroll in Texas Christian University. Bob received his degree in 1972. He began a second career in commercial real estate and property management. During this time he purchased 5 acres near Burleson, Texas where Bob and Flo designed and built their dream home.

In the spring of 2003, failing health led Bob and Flo to move to the Army Residence Community in San Antonio, Texas.

Bob is survived by daughters Linda Quebe and husband John of San Antonio, Texas; Connie Stout and husband Noel of Austin, Texas; and Marion Loyd and husband Gerald of Dumas, Arkansas; brothers Wayne Danner and wife Millie of Arlington, Texas; and Sidney Danner and wife Mary of Jacksonville, Texas; and sister Faye Thompson of Fort Worth, Texas; and, by his 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Bob is affectingly called "Poppy" by his family.
