Robert (Rusty) Russell Daring, 70, of San Antonio Texas, passed away unexpectedly on February 20, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and a proud veteran of the United States Air Force.
Rusty was born on December 13, 1953 in Fort Worth, Texas and he lived a remarkable life dedicated to service and his family. After graduating from O.D. Wyatt High School in 1972, he enlisted in the Air Force, where he served with honor and distinction for 20 years. His commitment to duty and country earned him numerous awards and decorations including National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, AF Longevity Service award Ribbon with four Oak Leaf Clusters (OLC), AF Good Conduct Medal with one Silver OLC, AF Commendation, and AF Meritorious Service Medal. His fellow service members remember him as a dedicated and reliable comrade. Upon hearing of Rusty’s passing, several of his fellow service members reached out giving their condolences and speaking about what an honorable and kind man Rusty was.
As a father and husband, Rusty was a guiding light, offering unwavering support and unconditional love to his wife Beth, son Bryan, and daughters, Kelley, Jennifer, Kerstin, and Shawna. The last trip he took with his daughters, Kelley (Rich Norlie), and Jennifer, along with his two granddaughters, Emma and Corrinne, was to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. He spent a relaxing week on the beach, lounging by the pool, sipping Coronas and enjoying his family (he even got to swim with a dolphin).
Rusty’s first grandson (his pride and joy) was Anthony. Rusty was there from the time he was born until Anthony enlisted in the US Navy and departed Texas. Rusty participated in Cub Scouts with Anthony, went on countless camping trips with him, and attended every award ceremony and every JROTC drill meet. Rusty adored all his grandchildren, and they brought immense joy to his life. Fondly known as Papa to his grandchildren, he loved spending time with them and traveling with them. They will remember him for his contagious laugh and loving personality.
Rusty was known for his love of music, spending time by the pool, grilling fajitas, wearing Hawaiian shirts, white New Balances, and traveling with his daughters. He enjoyed telling stories of his youth and days in the Air Force. Just when you thought you had heard every story, there was another one on deck. Anyone that ever met Rusty instantly fell in love with him. He truly had the kindest heart, and most infectious laugh of any man.
In addition to his parents, Vivian Ruth Russell Dulaney and Robert L. Daring, Rusty was predeceased by his stepfather, Ned Dulaney, and his sister, Barbara Chandler.
Rusty is survived by his devoted wife, Beth Daring and his loving children, Bryan Daring of Fort Worth, Texas; Kelley Daring (Rich Norlie) of Sacramento, California; Jennifer Daring of Glens Falls, New York; Kerstin Fitzgerald-Devlin of Austin, Texas; and Shawna Fitzgerald of San Antonio, Texas. Also left to cherish his memory are his beloved grandchildren, Anthony Enriquez (Chloe), Emma Lemery, Corrinne Lemery, and Liam Devlin; brother-in-law Robert Chandler; niece Cindy Chandler Hager (Joel), and nephew Dennis Chandler (Jaime Cook); stepchildren Alison Schulze, Matt McCoy, and Haley Upson; and step-grandchildren Veda Schulze, Owen Schulze, Heather Johnson, and Althea McCoy.
The loss of Rusty leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his memory will live on through the stories and love he shared with his family and friends. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love of those who held him dear.
